FableStar
A story where your child is the hero.
Grown-ups, pick tonight's hero and tonight's story, then hand the evening to your little one. Say “wrap up” out loud while the storyteller is listening and it brings the story gently home — that is the grown-up's route, not your child's.

FableStar
A story where your child is the hero.
Just a moment…

Welcome back
A story where your child is the hero.

Welcome to FableStar
A story where your child is the hero.
- A bedtime story, told out loud. You pick tonight's hero and tonight's story. The storyteller tells it, and your child decides what happens next by talking back.
- It winds down to a goodnight. Each story is made to end calmly, ready for sleep.
How a story works
- The storyteller tells, then asks. The first night starts with your child making their hero. After that, most pauses offer two ways the story could go. They answer out loud — one of the two, or an idea of their own.
- Your child can jump in. Tap “My child has an idea” whenever they want to say something while the story is talking — it stops the storyteller and listens.
- You can end it any time. “Bring it gently home” asks for the wind-down, so the story reaches a proper goodnight, and “Stop now” ends it straight away. Saying “wrap up” out loud while the storyteller is listening asks for the wind-down too.
Getting ready for tonight
- Allow about twenty minutes. Most stories take less.
- Somewhere quiet, with the sound up. Keep the phone close enough for the storyteller to hear your child, and allow the microphone when your phone asks.
- Keep FableStar open on screen during the story — it holds the phone awake so the story isn't cut off.
- Keep your access code somewhere safe. You type it on the next screen, and FableStar may ask for it again: always on another phone, and sometimes on this one.
- Your first night: after the access code, tap A brand-new hero and pick a story.
- Something not working? Write to gnohiakbot@gmail.com. The same address is under Voice and settings.

Before your first story
FableStar writes down what your child says — it never keeps the sound. Their hero stays until you delete them.
- The microphone is off until you tap yes. That tap is what opens it, and nothing listens before it.
- Your child talks, the storyteller answers. Their voice goes from this phone straight to OpenAI, who run the storyteller. The sound never reaches FableStar, and FableStar never stores it.
- The words are written down. That means what your child said, what the storyteller said, and anything they invented along the way are recorded as transcripts. These are only used to improve how FableStar works.
- The hero is kept until you delete them. Their name, their satchel and how far they've got stay, so they're still there tomorrow night. Say goodbye on the heroes screen removes the hero, and that is yours to decide.
If your child says something that worries you — in a story or out of one — please act on it yourself. Talk to them. Talk to your GP, their school, or your local children's services. Those are the people who can actually help. FableStar will not act on any information received, other than for the purpose of improving its storytelling functionality.
Please do not rely on FableStar to notice anything. Nobody is listening while a story is running. FableStar will not come and tell you if something is wrong.
What happens to the words
- On FableStar's side the record is text only. There is no recording of your child's voice anywhere on our side.
- What the sessions produce is ours. The written transcript, our notes, and anything else created from your family's use of FableStar belong to us, with full rights of ownership and use. That said, the transcripts are only used to improve how FableStar works.
- What OpenAI does with your child's voice is covered by their own terms, not by anything on this page.
- Your child's hero record goes back to OpenAI on later nights — the hero and companion they made, what they have collected, and the choices they made so far. Things your child invented — a creature, a name, a rule of their world — are sent to the storyteller again so it remembers them.
- Deleting the hero does not delete the transcripts. It clears that hero, their satchel and their sky.
- Stopping is done with the buttons, and they are yours. Bring it gently home asks for the wind-down, so the story reaches a proper goodnight instead of stopping mid-sentence. Stop now ends it immediately. My child has an idea interrupts the storyteller and listens.
- Saying “wrap up” out loud is the grown-up's route, not your child's. If your child asks to stop, the storyteller does not decide for them — it offers them the choice between a gentler bit and saying goodnight. That is deliberate. The buttons are what always work.
- This page lives in Settings too, so you can read it again without me.
- For any feedback or issues please write to gnohiakbot@gmail.com
That's completely fine
The microphone never opened.
- Close this when you're ready. Your access code still works if you change your mind.
- If something here put you off, tell me. That's the most useful thing you could give me this week.
Once the story starts, hand the phone to your little one. You can stop it at any point with the buttons on that screen.

Please keep this screen open — it holds the phone awake so the story isn't cut off.
Goodnight.
